CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force. (CRPF) or CRPF full form Central Reserve Police Force is the largest Indian Central Armed Force. And it is also thought to be the biggest Paramilitary Force. It operates under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India. The CRPF’s primary role is to assist states and union territory in their police operations, to maintain law and order, and to combat riots.

After independence, the force was renamed from Crown Representative Police (CRP) to Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by a law passed by Parliament on December 28, 1949.

History of CRPF

• CRPF is the acronym for Central Reserve Police Force.
• The full form of the CRPF was derived from the (CRP) Crown Representative Police and was established on July 27, 1939.
• After independence, the force was renamed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by a law passed by Parliament on December 28, 1949. The law constituted the CRPF as an armed force of the Union of India, i.e. The Indian army is controlled by the Indian government through the Ministry of Defence.
• In the 1960s, many battalions of the state reserve police were merged with the CRPF.
• During the parliamentary elections in September 1999, the CRPF played an important role in security arrangements.
• The year 2008 saw the creation of The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was a specialized section of the CRPF. That was created to combat Naxal-related operations to ensure the security of the country.
• The main objective of the CRPF is to help the governments of the State, associations and regions to maintain legality in their spheres.

Mission

The mission of the Central Reserve Police Force shall be to enable the government to maintain Rule of Law, Public Order and Internal Security effectively and efficiently, to Preserve National Integrity and Promote Social Harmony and Development by upholding supremacy of the Constitution.

Criteria for CRPF Eligibility?

General eligibility criteria

• Candidate Must be an Indian.
• The age of the candidate must be between 18 to 23 years old when they apply for CRPF.         
  • For SC/ST Candidates, the age limit is increased by 5 years.
  • For OBC Candidates, the upper age limit is increased by 3 years.
• The candidate must not have any tattoos on his/her body.
• The candidate must pass medical tests first. They must be approved by the CRPF STAFF.

Education Qualification for CRPF

• The minimum level of education needed to be eligible for joining Training in CRPF is 10th grade or equivalent.

Physical Requirements for CRPF

• The minimum height needed for male candidate to joining the CRPF is 170cm (5 cm. Relation for Adivasis or Tribals).
• The weight of the body must be proportional to the height of the applicant.
• The minimum Chest for male candidate to joining the CRPF is 81cms. (A Minimum of 5 cm. of expansion; tribals between 77 and 82 cm).

Selection Process

• Exercise Tests for Fitness (Running body shape, height, Stamina, weight, etc.)
• Written Examination.
• Medical Exams conducted by authorized personnel.
• An interview with Selectors.

Salary of CRPF

Salary of CRPF Jawan Ranges from 0.15 lac to 4.3 lac India Rupees based on the Training and Educational qualifications.

Role Of CRPF

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF full form) is an army-like paramilitary unit under the Home Ministry. Its main mission is to support all 29 states and seven Union Territories in police actions, to keep law and order, and to contain the insurgency. It was deployed in anti-Naxal efforts during the last five years, and has had an excellent success rate, with the work they do.

Other Special Role of CRPF

Rapid Action Force

RAF is “Rapid Action Force”, A special force that was established in Oct. 1992 with a first batch of 10 unattached battalions, and later added 5 additional units on the 01/01/2018. These units were established to respond to riots or similar situations that could cause riots, to create confidence in all segments of society. They also manage security duties within the organization.

Mahila Battalions

The CRPF has the distinction of being the sole Para Military Force in the country with six Mahila (Ladies) battalions. Following its initial training during March 1987 88(M) Bn received praise for its efforts in assisting the Meerut protests, and later in conjunction in and later with the IPKF and the IPKF in Sri Lanka. The personnel of the 2nd Mahila battalion (135 Bn) did well in this year’s Lok Sabha elections in 1996 in several states.

The Mahila battalion is currently stationed on operational duty across Jammu & Kashmir, Ayodhya, Manipur, Assam, and other areas of the country, where they have done a great job. Besides, each RAF battalion is equipped with a Mahila (Ladies) section made up of 106 members. Also, there are 242 Mahila personnel are also authorized to be part of the 241 Bastariya BN.

CoBRA

The Govt. of India approved creating the Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA) to conduct guerrilla or jungle warfare kind of operations for dealing with militants and extremists, etc.

The Govt. granted approval to an increase of 10 battalions unattached to CoBRA within the CRPF and an official Sector Headquarters for these battalions supervised by the Inspector General. The timetable for raising the battalions is listed below:

• 2008-09: 02 (two) Bns and Sector Hqrs, CoBRA
• 2009-10: 04 (four) Battalions.
• 2010-11: 04 (four) Battalions.

It was established in the CoBRA Sector, and started functioning at Dte. Gen., CRPF, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi under the direction by Shri K. Durga Prasad IPS, IG, CoBRA Sector. Then, in March 2009 the Sector Headquarters moved to Pushp Vihar in New Delhi and since 11/11/2009 it has been operating at the Old Secretariat, Civil Lines Delhi-54.
